The journey into entrepreneurship can be brutal – full of ups and downs.  Most of the success stories you’ve heard have an untold history of massive failures. Entrepreneur: My favorite definitions from around the web

Merriam-Webster: “One who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise.”

Forbes: “Leaders work on the system, managers work in the system.”

Some common pitfalls of entrepreneurship

If there are a few things I could jump into a time machine and tell my past self, they would include:

  • Consistent effort beats temporary enthusiasm. Forcing yourself to plan allows you to fuel the times when motivation is hitting empty, because a long-term focus allows you to accurately value the small stuff.
  • If you find yourself in a situation where you absolutely HATE your direction, don’t be afraid to change it. Quitting isn’t the worst that can happen. Change fast and change often.
  • There are people that want to talk about doing something. They want to spend their time looking at the best tools for the job. Good planning has its place, but procrastination can take the form of planning and assessing in the extreme. At some point you have to just get moving with the tools you have.
